The Society of Cosmetic Scientists (SCS) has launched 'Scrub Up On Science', its first curriculum-linked secondary resource for 11 to 16 year-olds, which aims to provoke an interest in, and an awareness of, the cosmetic science industry.
The programme offers practical lesson plans with accompanying worksheets and PowerPoint presentations. All lessons are rooted in the Chemistry curriculum, and provide links to the industry by showcasing some of the chemical properties of cosmetics alongside techniques employed by cosmetic scientists.
The site includes careers case studies of individuals working within the industry, detailing their career pathways and day-to-day roles. Also on offer is a competition for students (launching January 2015) and a visit request form where teachers can enquire about the possibility of a cosmetic scientist visiting their school.
